Andrew Johnson has been studying the violin since he was five years old. His first playing gig came when he was in first grade, opening for his elementary school’s play. Since then, he has been in the pit orchestras of many plays including, Fiddler on the Roof, Evita, Les Miserable, Sound of Music, Cinderella, Singing in the Rain, and was an on stage fiddler in Cumberland County Colleges production of A Christmas Carol. In eighth grade Andrew auditioned and was accepted into the all south jersey orchestra. Entering high school, he auditioned for the all south jersey orchestra his freshman, sophomore, and junior year, and was accepted all three times. During his junior year of high school he also auditioned for the all state orchestra, also being accepted. Andrew Johnson also sat 4th chair in the Philadelphia Sinfonia for two years. With this orchestra he toured Poland and the Czech Republic for two weeks, performing four concerts while overseas. All before graduating high school Andrew has worked with WHYY radio host Jack Moore, nationally known arranger Sandra Dakow, highly regarded violinist Dr. Bertram Greenspan, who later became his private teacher, and Herbert Light of the Philadelphia Orchestra.
