The Ibsen Project: A Lonely Light

The Ibsen Project is an interdisciplinary workshop about the great Norwegian playwright, Henrik Ibsen. Told from a modernist view, A Lonely Light is a story about Henrik Ibsen preparing to write A Doll's House.

at Plays &Players (1714 Delancey St./between 17th & 18th Sts.)

ALL ROLES PAID/Seeking 3 ACTORS for the roles of Henrik Ibsen, Sigurd Ibsen and Paolo di Moretti. Please bring headshot and resume, sides will be provided at the audition and prepare a short classical/ poetic realism monologue (Greek tragedies/comedies, Ibsen, Strindberg, Chekhov, etc.). Seeking Actress to Play:
Laura Kieler/Ensemble-mid 20s, acquaintances with Ibsen. Strong presence, must be a strong dancer. Her husband has her committed to a mental hospital after he discovers she has forged a loan to repay money she borrowed. She spends most of the play in a strait jacket.

Seeking Actors/Dancers for Ensemble:
Also seeking dynamic and versatile actors who dance and dancers within an interest in acting to play the ensemble-an integral part of the play, the ensemble will function as a Greek chorus.

Seeking Actors to Play:
Henrik Ibsen-early 50s, a commanding presence, loves his wife, but is intrigued by Norina. A thoughtful, brooding, passionate and ambitious playwright seeking to do something great in his work. At this point in the play, he is one of Norway’s great writers.

Sigurd Ibsen-early 20s, Ibsen’s son. Attractive, intelligent, in love with Norina and has deep insecurities of living up to his Father’s legacy.

Paolo di Moretti-late 30s to early 40s, Aileen’s husband. A failed artist turned politician from a wealthy Italian family.

*Rehearsal Dates: August 16th-30th (there will be brush-up rehearsals between August 30th and September 11th).

*Fringe Performance Run Dates: September 12th and 13th at 7pm (there will be a Q and A after the show on the 12th)

Volunteers to Teach Art to Young Students in Philly

Aspire Arts is looking early career artists that would be interested in volunteering their time to teach Philadelphia students art in an after school setting. Artists can specialize in any medium, including, but not limited to, visual art, music, dance, and theater. Accepting Workshop Proposals for 2009-2010 Season

Aspire arts, a multi-disciplinary organization dedicated to supporting early career artists, is accepting proposals from teaching artists for workshops for it's upcoming 2009-2010 season. Workshops can be in any discipline, including but not limited to, music, dance, theater, film, visual arts, creative writing, and puppetry. Director of Education Outreach and Programming:

Reporting to the Executive Director, this person will be responsible for working closely with the ED to develop Aspire's outreach programing. Job responsibilities include recruiting and training highly motivated and creative teaching artists. Developing relationships with area schools and community centers. Creating teachers' handbooks and systems of protocol. Directly mentoring teaching artists and helping to shape curriculum and address classroom and pedagogical concerns. Director of Education Outreach and Programming will be directly assisted by an intern.

Master's degree in education preferred, arts background required. Some administrative and teaching experience a must. Must be highly articulate, driven, and dedicated to making a positive impact in the Philadelphia community.

Commitment is approx. 10-15 hours a week.

At this time this is not a paying position but upon receiving grant funding will be one of the first positions to receive salary.

Assistant to the Executive Director

The Assistant to the Executive Director will work in a variey of ways to support and enchance the growth of Aspire Arts, Inc. Reporting directly to the Exective Director, the Intern will be responsible for helping the E.D. in public relations and marketing, fundraising, event planning, grant writing, research, and budgeting. Intern will have the opportunity to learn from the Executive Director what goes into the day to day operations of running a non-profit arts company. The Intern will attend all board meetings, events, and opening night performances unless excused by the Executive Director.

This is an unpaid internship position. College credit is available.
