Musical Direction by Matt Schlatter

Ballad Boys is the story of two brothers, at the beginning of their adult lives,
trying to make lives for themselves by writing music. Through their interactions
with one another, the writing and playing of their songs, and their connection
(or lack thereof) with a girl named Amy, we see the world from their very
unique viewpoint.

The piece will be developed with Aspire Arts' team of artists, who will each blog about the experience at aspirearts.org.  Using several different workshop techniques, Ballad Boys will be cut, stretched, and bended backwards until it breathes a sigh of relief and finds its final shape.  Whatever shape that ends up being, with elements of traditional straight play, rock concert, video production, and more, the piece promises to be an exciting evening of multi-media synergy that dares to live in-between genres.

Through a combination of poetry, music, dance and visual art, Projection Machine explores self-awareness and its effect on our perception of the world. Mythology and modern culture collide as the self births, lives, and dies in this epic tale of illusion and isolation.
